A village named after galleons.

Las Galeras takes its name from the old ships whose crews and passengers first settled here. The village lived from fishing, and later from farming.

Today it is part of Santa Bárbara de Samaná and one of the best fishing spots on the peninsula, with diving, snorkeling, boating, horseback riding and hiking all within reach.
